Mapping VibraCore Samples: Whiskey Island

| | | This map was designed as an ArcReader application that allows users to select the location of a core sample and view images of the actual core taken as well as field notes and core description.

Historical Land Cover Changes: Environmental Impact of MRGO

| | | This map was created to illustrate the pre MRGO land cover to present day, which has increased in width from the initial 182.9 meters (m) (600 feet [ft]) to 609.6 m (2,000 ft) (an average of 10.7 m per yr [35.1 ft per yr]), causing a land loss of more than 81 km2 (31.3 mi2).

Land Use / Land Cover Analyses

| | | Land use is the term that is used to describe human uses of the land, or immediate actions modifying or converting land cover. This map of the Lake Pontchartrain Basin highlights the human influence of converting critical habitats to developed areas during a twenty year span.

Shoreline Change Analyses

| | | This map was created using historical vector shorelines and Digital Globe QuickBird satellite imagery. The map shows long term changes in shoreline confiuration between the mid 1800's to present for Chandeleur Island.

Environmental Impacts of Poorly Planned Growth

| | | Human disturbance has had a massive impact on the balance of wetland growth and decline. This map highlights the changes in developed areas throughout the Pontchartrain Basin as a result of poorly planned growth.
