GIS/Remote Sensing Intern:

Position Summary: The GeoVista Group is seeking a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Intern for a part- to full-time temporary position. The GIS Intern will provide research and GIS support for several projects involving web based GIS applications.
Major Responsibilities: Responsibilities will include developing high quality map layouts for publications, researching and editing datasets, writing and publishing metadata, developing CD Atlas products using ArcPublisher, and helping to publish datasets and maps on project websites. Other responsibilities may include assistance in managing GIS software and GIS lab equipment, obtaining satellite imagery, assisting with information requests, and other general support as needed. The position will start at the beginning of November and will last for three months or on an as-needed basis.
Position Summary: A Bachelors or Masters degree, with GIS training in subjects relating to environmental conservation, international development, or geography and at least six months of professional GIS work experience. In-depth knowledge of ESRI ArcGIS 9.x software and extensions is essential. The applicant should be experienced with some or all of the following: advanced data analysis and editing, preparing metadata using ArcCatalog, and preparing maps for publication. Applicant should possess strong technical skills, feel comfortable with handling a variety of datasets, and be able to conceptualize and conduct GIS analysis on a timely basis. Experience in graphic or web design is a plus. The successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability to produce timely, professional-quality work as well as the ability to collaborate with a variety of personalities and partners. A familiarity and interest in the general concepts of ecosystem services, natural resource management, forestry, and international development is preferred. Critical and analytical thinking, creativity, self-motivation, efficient work habits, attention to detail, and good communication skills are necessary. International study or work experience is welcomed, but not required.
